I imagine most of you are aware of the practice of placing a “skip to content” link at the top of web pages, mainly for those using screen readers. The idea is that, though navigation takes up little real estate on a styled page, it may take some time for a screen reader to go through. For an example, see the Web Standards Project homepage. The question here is whether there is enough initial content to necessitate a “skip to content” link. One justification is for repeat screen-reader users, who want to go immediately to blog content, bypassing even the site description, and other information probably necessary for the first visit.
